Overview

The Director, UN Network on Migration Secretariat will oversee all aspects of the Network Secretariat's work, providing policy advice and advancing the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.

Tasks Summary
  • Oversee all aspects of the work of the Network Secretariat.
  • Provide authoritative and expert policy advice.
  • Identify opportunities to advance GCM implementation.
  • Lead and ensure effective functioning of the Network and its Executive Committee.
  • Oversee the GCM's capacity building mechanism.
  • Establish and maintain strong communities of support for the GCM.
  • Ensure the GCM and Network are embedded into IOM.
  • Oversee the conceptualization and preparation of biannual Secretary-General reports on the GCM.
  • Manage secretariat staff, JPOs, secondees and interns.
  • Represent IOM and the Network in senior-level meetings.
Experience Requirements
  • Fifteen years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a multilateral system, preferably in a UN context, with deep familiarity of the UN system, its secretariat, agencies, funds, programmes and organizations; working also closely with international agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders, and governments;
  • Demonstrated experience in building relationships and fostering partnerships with UN system entities, particularly through inter-agency mechanisms;
  • Demonstrated ability in supporting multilateral processes and overseeing development of system-wide policy positions (e.g. through preparation of Secretary-General reports);
  • Demonstrated experience in representative work, including public speaking);
  • Ability to make decisions and/or provide technical/substantive advice, based on sound analysis and information gathering.
  • Demonstrated management skills including with a large diverse team in different locations; ability to empower staff members to deliver outputs; ability to address challenges and conflicts as needed;
  • Strong analytical, drafting and negotiation skills;
  • Ability to work independently against tight deadlines;
  • Experience with strategic planning and budgetary oversight;
  • Ability to anticipate and mitigate against issues;
  • Solid computer skills.
Qualification Requirements

Master’s degree in International Studies or a related field from an accredited academic institution.

Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in English is required (oral and written).

Languages Preferred: Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.

Contract Duration: 1 year with possibility of extension
