Overview
The Humanitarian Affairs Officer will support the Coordination and Response Planning Unit in Maputo, Mozambique, contributing to humanitarian reporting, financing initiatives, anticipatory action, and disaster preparedness efforts.
Tasks Summary
- Support overall humanitarian coordination efforts with UN agencies, NGOs, and government partners.
- Support the implementation of humanitarian financing mechanisms.
- Contribute to the drafting of various written outputs.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of disaster preparedness activities.
- Support the strengthening of existing Anticipatory Action frameworks and the development of new ones.
- Support the organization of meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
- Maintain updated key resources and respond to information requests.
- Perform other related tasks as needed.
Experience Requirements
- 3 years Donor priorities . Nationality Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment. Additional eligibility criteria This assignment is funded by the Government of Korea and therefore specific criteria apply:
- Candidates must be Korean nationals.
- Candidates must be 27 years of age at the time of application.
- Candidates who have already served as UN Volunteer Specialist funded by the Government of Korea are not eligible to apply (former UN University and UN Youth Volunteers are eligible).
- Serving UN Volunteers will not be considered for other UN Volunteer assignments until they reach three (3) months before the End of Contract date of their current UN Volunteer assignment. This provision applies equally to first and subsequent contracts.
- Candidates may apply to a maximum of three assignments and indicate the order of preference in the ‘Additional remarks’ field when filling in the application form.
- Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The selection will be done by the UN Host Entity at the level of the country of assignment.
Relevant experience 3 years
- Strong drafting, analytical, communication, and advocacy skills are required
- Experience working in the context of natural disaster or complex emergencies is required
- Knowledge of humanitarian financing, and donor relations is desirable
- Knowledge of anticipatory action, disasters readiness and response is desirable
- Work experience in the field is desirable
- Experience in the Southern and Eastern Africa region is desirable
- Experience in the UN or a comparable international organization is desirable
- Familiarity with OCHA’s mandate and products is desirable
Qualification Requirements
Master's degree in international relations, humanitarian affairs, development studies, political studies, climate or related field.
