Overview
The Counter-Trafficking Associate will support the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Nigeria’s Sub-office in Benin City, contributing to migration governance, counter-trafficking, and migrant protection programs.
Tasks Summary
- Assist in analysing national/regional migration policies, with a focus on counter-trafficking frameworks, gaps, and compliance with international standards.
- Contribute to drafting policy briefs, reports, and recommendations for government and NGO partners.
- Support the compilation of migration trends and trafficking data through desk reviews, surveys, and stakeholder interviews.
- Help maintain databases and visualize findings (e.g., dashboards, maps) to inform programming.
- Participate in meetings with government, UN agencies, and civil society to strengthen migration governance coordination.
- Document outcomes and action points for follow-up by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) teams.
- Contribute to organizing workshops/training sessions on migration policy, victim protection, and rights-based approaches.
- Assist in preparing advocacy materials (e.g., presentations, policy position papers).
- Collaborate with the International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s protection and counter-trafficking teams to integrate policy findings into operational responses.
- Support monitoring and evaluation efforts to assess policy impact.
Experience Requirements
- 1 month experience
- Demonstrated interest or experience in: Migration governance, counter-trafficking, or human rights.
- Strong analytical, writing, and presentation skills; familiarity with qualitative/quantitative data tools (e.g., Excel, NVivo) is an asset.
- Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded
- Policy drafting and stakeholder coordination (e.g., supporting policy reviews, meeting facilitation)
- Data collection and visualization (e.g., surveys, dashboards, or other tools for migration trends).
Qualification Requirements
Bachelor's degree in International relations, Law, Public Policy, Development Studies, or related field.
