Overview

The Economic Researcher Intern will support economic policy design and implementation in the Arab region by conducting analytical research, data analysis, and assisting in the preparation of technical materials related to competition policy, consumer protection, and development planning.

Tasks Summary

• Contribute to economic assessments and regional analyses related to competition policy, consumer protection, and development planning.
• Provide assistance in preparing technical material and presentations, briefing notes, and working papers.
• Help gather and process quantitative and qualitative data using Excel or other software tools.
• Support the planning and coordination of upcoming meetings, webinars, etc.
• Maintain organized records of research materials, reports, and datasets.
• Conduct background research and compile relevant economic and sectoral data for performing market studies.
• Support the work on monitoring and evaluating Oman market study for the building material sector.
• Perform other assigned tasks and duties as requested by the supervisor.

No previous work experience is required for this job opening.

Qualification Requirements

• Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); OR enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); OR have graduated with a university degree.
• Computer literate in standard software applications.
• Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.

Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in English and Arabic is required.

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of French is desirable.

Contract Duration: 2 months

Remuneration: Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
