Overview

This internship position is located in the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Division on International Trade and Commodities. The programme aims to expose students or recent graduates to the United Nations to enhance their educational experience and gain experience in the work of the Organization.

Tasks Summary
  • Assist in collecting, evaluating, interpreting, and analysing specified statistics and qualitative socio-economic information.
  • Assist in preparing briefing notes, inputs to speeches, and similar material on economic or sector issues.
  • Assist in inputting for reports to intergovernmental bodies.
  • Assist in following intergovernmental meetings and preparing summary reports.
  • Prepare inputs to statements by members of the Office of the Director and UNCTAD Secretariat staff.
  • Assist in the organization and servicing of expert group meetings, seminars, and panels.
  • Perform other related duties as required, including administrative tasks.
  • Support the Office’s clearance process of input requests, communications, and research material.
  • Support the division’s programme reporting efforts.
Experience Requirements

No working experience is required for this internship. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.

Qualification Requirements
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • University degree must be in the area of economics, development, law, political science or other social sciences deemed appropriate.
  • Preferably pursue studies in journalism, marketing, public relations or communications-related fields.
  • Preferably pursue studies in environmental studies, economics, international trade, sustainability, or other trade-related fields.
Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency oral and written in English is required.

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is desirable.

Contract Duration: six months

Work Modality: Mixed (In-Person and Remote)

Remuneration: The Internship Programme is unpaid. Interns must cover all costs of travel, accommodation, medical insurance and living expenses.
