Overview
The Security Operations Centre Assistant supports daily operations by operating telecommunications facilities, monitoring news, and disseminating security information. The role ensures efficient communications and information flow for UN entities, International Non-Governmental Organizations, and International Organizations.
Tasks Summary
- Operate and communicate using UN standard telecommunications facilities (VHF and HF radio networks).
- Answer calls promptly and efficiently.
- Maintain radio contact with users, stations, and vehicles.
- Maintain regular communications with staff in the field and HQ.
- Track all missions and advise on security-related issues.
- Provide initial response to emergency communications.
- Monitor news 24/7 and report security incidents.
- Advise staff of important incoming radio messages.
- Type, distribute, and log all incoming/outgoing radio/phone messages.
- Disseminate security information and advisories.
- Ensure efficient communications and information flow.
- Ensure network users comply with standard radio procedures.
- Implement standard UN Call sign systems, vehicle tracking procedures, and SOPs.
- Maintain updated staff and vehicle lists.
- Establish daily contact with UNAFP security.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of messages.
- Ensure radio rooms are adequately equipped and have up-to-date documentation.
- Maintain radio networks and communications equipment.
- Recommend new systems or enhancements.
- Advise on faults in telecommunications networks.
- Assist ICT officer in equipment installation.
- Provide basic technical support for communications equipment.
- Train UN's implementing partners.
- Work closely with other agencies telecom's services.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in radio communications (with secondary education).
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in radio communications (with a bachelor’s degree).
Qualification Requirements
- Secondary education is required.
- University degree (bachelor’s degree) in Political Science, Military Studies, Security Management, Management or a relevant field will be given due consideration, but it is not a requirement.
- Applicable security, police and/or military training is desirable.
- Certificate in radio telecommunications is an added value.
