Overview
The Security Operations Centre Assistant will collate all security-related incidents that cause disruption to UN operations or adversely affect the safety and security of UN staff and their dependents. The role aims to minimize risk and implement security measures.
Tasks Summary
- Coordinate the work of SOC Assistants, including shift systems and training.
- Oversee the monitoring of field mission movements.
- Supervise the operations of VHF and HF radio networks.
- Maintain regular communication with staff in the field and HQ.
- Log accurately all incoming/outgoing radio/telephone messages.
- Escalate security incidents through appropriate channels.
- Contact external security services to support personnel involved in security incidents.
- Implement standard UN Call-sign systems, vehicle tracking procedures, and SOPs.
- Ensure SOCs are equipped with up-to-date documentation and maintain accurate contact details.
- Monitor the use and status of the Security Communication System.
- Maintain radio networks and communications equipment.
- Provide basic technical support for communications equipment.
- Perform daily routine service checks of SOC equipment.
- Train UN implementing partners on a per-need basis.
- Work closely with other agencies' telecom services.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience (with secondary education) or 2 years of experience (with a Bachelor's degree) working in radio room/SOC operations.
- Experience supervising teams, including overseeing implementation of work plans and providing feedback on performance.
- Experience training individuals and groups.
Qualification Requirements
- Secondary education is required.
- University degree (bachelor’s or master’s equivalent) in Political Science, Military Studies, Security Management, Management or a relevant field will be given due consideration, but it is not a requirement.
- Applicable security, police and/or military training is desirable.
