Overview
The Senior Government Liaison Associate supports the establishment of close working relations with government officials and monitors issues concerning asylum seekers, stateless persons, and refugees. The role involves analysing political activities and their implications for humanitarian operations.
Tasks Summary
- Assist in establishing close working relations with officials in various ministries.
- Monitor evolving issues concerning asylum seekers, stateless persons, and refugees.
- Analyse news and political activities and their implication to the Operation.
- Report on local and international developments impacting the office's relationship with the Government.
- Inform supervisor on the outcome of discussions with government authorities.
- Provide support in dealing with challenges posed by the political context.
- Accompany senior staff on missions and meetings.
- Assist in preparation for visits and missions.
- Draft correspondence, reports, briefing notes, and talking points.
- Manage budget, including tracking expenditures, when requested.
- Initiate contact with relevant external parties.
- Coordinate with different units to ensure information presented to government authorities is verified and endorsed.
- Support the identification and management of risks and opportunities.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Experience Requirements
- Proven experience in government liaison, political analysis, and coordination within complex and sensitive operating environments.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain trust-based working relationships with government counterparts at national and sub-national levels.
- Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment.
- Proven solid understanding of humanitarian, protection, and durable solutions frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience in supporting reintegration, return, and/or stabilization processes.
- Strong understanding of government structures, administrative processes, and their interface with humanitarian programming.
- Good knowledge of UNHCR operations and good political awareness (desirable).
Qualification Requirements
- High School Diploma with 4 years relevant experience; or Bachelor or equivalent or higher with 2 years relevant work experience.
- Certificates and/or Licenses in Political/Social Science; Business Administration; or other relevant field.
