Overview

The Crop Super Pollutant Specialist will support the facilitation and implementation of the Belem Declaration on Fertilizers and the Rice Methane Leadership Group. The role involves engaging key partners, providing guidance, and coordinating work plans.

Tasks Summary
  • Coordinate the Rice Methane Leadership Group and Belem Declaration on Fertilizers.
  • Establish, coordinate outreach to countries and convene the Belem Declaration on Fertilizers and the Plan to Accelerate Fertilizer Solutions.
  • Organize a workshop to advance the Belem Declaration on Fertilizers and support negotiations within the Montreal Protocol.
  • Support development of funding proposals for CCAC facilitation of the Belem Declaration on Fertilizers.
  • Support identification and review of a CCAC-TEAP report on nitrous oxide or methane mitigation from agriculture.
  • Provide continued expert guidance to operationalize the Farmers Initiative for Resilient and Sustainable Transformations (FIRST) Flagship.
  • Bilateral meetings with government officials in priority countries not yet engaged in FIRST.
  • Develop details for at least 1 Targeted Expert Assistance proposal for the rice sector.
  • Plan and deliver one workshop on South-South and triangular cooperation for low-methane rice cultivation under FIRST.
  • Blog post on the CCAC website on nitrous oxide mitigation from fertilizers.
Experience Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience in crop production and agricultural GHG emissions, crop nutrient management, and/or agricultural climate policy, with experience addressing super pollutant emissions from agricultural activities is required.
  • Experience in country and stakeholder engagement, including established networks with strategic actors across the crop production value chain is required.
  • Experience in developing and communicating expert sectoral advice is required.
Qualification Requirements

• An advanced university degree is required in the field of agricultural sciences, agronomy, ecology, environmental management, behavioral sciences and other related fields.

Other Details

Languages Required: • Fluency in English (written and oral) is required.

Languages Preferred: • Knowledge of an additional UN language is an asset.

Contract Duration: 6 months

Work Modality: Paris, France (or remote, with regular travel to Paris at consultant’s own cost)
