Overview
The local coordinator will provide on-the-ground support for UNEP CCC experts, assisting with logistics, data gathering, and stakeholder coordination for the development of Mauritius' NDC 3.0.
Tasks Summary
- Coordinate project activities locally, including stakeholder engagement.
- Develop a stakeholder engagement plan.
- Report on progress to the Project Manager.
- Lead and undertake data collection for emission projections and GHG emission reduction scenarios.
- Coordinate stakeholder consultations for mitigation and adaptation measures.
- Lead and undertake data collection on investment costs, potential revenue streams, savings, and avoided costs of measures.
- Lead and undertake data collection on potential negative impacts and positive sustainable development impacts of measures.
- Lead and undertake data collection for climate impacts, adaptation, and resilience.
- Lead and undertake data collection on Nature-based Solutions.
- Lead and undertake data collection on loss and damage.
- Support the development of and engage in stakeholder consultation and data collection on national budget spending on climate-related policies and measures.
- Support local dimensions of project management.
- Ensure alignment with national needs and coordination with sectoral institutions.
- Support UNEP-CCC with workshop preparation, organization, and delivery, including drafting reports.
- Support logistical needs for UNEP-CCC in-country visits.
- Prepare a stakeholder engagement plan.
- Plan, prepare, and execute inception meetings and UNEP CCC inception mission.
- Support data collection at the national level.
- Review and provide input to main deliverables.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute the validation process and workshops.
- Provide ad-hoc coordination and support.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a Master's degree.
- Practical experience of more than 9 years on climate change issues (related to both adaptation and mitigation), including on NDC implementation.
- Experience with the formulation and/or monitoring of Nationally Determined Contributions.
- Demonstrated experience in building capacity for climate action in private sector businesses or with governments on climate action.
- Relevant experience in consulting work.
- Concrete experience in Mauritius on climate change topics with public institutions – either as an employee or as a consultant or partner – is required.
Qualification Requirements
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent), preferably in the natural sciences or engineering, with postgraduate studies in climate change and/or related fields.
