Overview

The Information Management Assistant will serve as the UNEP focal point for the review, quality assurance, and validation of geospatial-related products. The role involves managing geospatial data and information to support environmental decision-making and performing administrative tasks related to geospatial data and information management.

Tasks Summary
  • Serves as the UNEP focal point for validation/quality assurance/quality control of all geospatial-related products on publications, presentations, and electronic platforms.
  • Reviews/validates and clears all maps /country names prior to the issuance and publication of any map.
  • Maintains up-to-date geospatial United Nations-approved basemap data sets.
  • Conducts geospatial data management, analysis and visualization using Geospatial technologies.
  • Identifies/collates/compiles relevant data on specific environmental themes using geospatial technologies.
  • Creates operational dashboards and story maps for interactive data visualization and sharing.
  • Performs GIS processing on UNEP projects.
  • Provides Geospatial training and guidance to new/junior staff.
  • Provides inputs for the implementation of One UN Geospatial Situation Room.
  • Drafts and prepares correspondence and communication materials related to geospatial data and information.
  • Leads recruitment/hiring of United Nations Volunteers (UNVs), consultants and interns.
  • Supervises day-to-day activities of United Nations Volunteers (UNVs) and Interns.
  • Assists with the collection and analysis of data and preparation of data presentations and reports.
  • Assists with visualizations and updating information material.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in geospatial information, analysis, mapping, data visualization, information management or related areas is required.
  • Experience with database programming languages (Python, SQL) and/or web GIS platforms is required.
  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), remote sensing tools, and spatial databases is required.
  • Experiencing in data modeling and database management is desirable.
  • One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
  • A High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Relevant training in GIS Systems Administration is desirable.
