Overview

Provide technical and coordination support to strengthen the implementation and credibility of the Steel Methane Programme. The role will deliver a robust MRV framework, enhanced data products, and structured stakeholder engagement to ensure transparent and harmonized tracking of methane emissions across coal and steel supply chains.

Tasks Summary
  • Thought leadership on methane transparency and MRV for coal and steel value chain
  • Hands-on technical and analytical contributions
  • Structured coordination across IMEO technical teams and external partners
  • Ownership of selected delivery milestones that contribute to SMP objectives
  • Support the development, refinement, and implementation of the Steel Methane Programme
  • Coordinate development of the MRV Framework for the programme
  • Support engagement with internal and external stakeholders
  • Support the development, coordination, and maintenance of IMEO data products related to coal and steel methane emissions
  • Contribute to related data integration efforts, documentation, methodological consistency across datasets and public-facing outputs
  • Support engagement with external stakeholders, including industry, governments, NGOs, research institutions, and international organisations
  • Maintain regular engagement with key NGOs and other stakeholders
  • Contribute to the preparation of stakeholder-oriented materials and technical briefings
  • Undertake analytical work and research on methane emissions from metallurgical coal and steel supply chains
  • Provide technical input to SMP reports, studies, and external publications
  • Monitor relevant scientific, regulatory, and policy developments
  • Support internal organizational workstreams, including but not limited to contracting, recruitment and stakeholder workshops
  • Contribute to internal documentation and knowledge sharing
  • Provide cross-cutting support to other IMEO activities
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in coal sector
  • Knowledge and research experience in coal and methane
  • Demonstrated scientific expertise in managing complex projects
  • Prior work experience in UNEP is desireable.
Qualification Requirements

Masters or Equivalent in natural or physical sciences, engineering, or related field.

Other Details

Languages Required: English is the working language of UNEP's IMEO.

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of additional languages is an asset.

Contract Duration: 12 months
