INTERN - HUMAN RIGHTS

Overview

The intern will support the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in its mission to protect human rights. Responsibilities include assisting with the mainstreaming of work on National Human Rights Institutions and supporting various initiatives related to human rights mechanisms.

Tasks Summary

• Support functions related to the Global Alliance of National Human Rights (GANHRI) and its Sub-Committee on Accreditation web-page.
• Assist in research regarding National Human Rights Institutions functions and practices.
• Support the organization and implementation of seminars, workshops and/or training activities on National Human Rights Institutions.
• Assist in the preparation of training and information materials concerning National Human Rights Institutions.
• Support initiatives aimed at strengthening the relationship between OHCHR, National Human Rights Institutions and Regional Mechanisms.
• Provide assistance throughout the sessions of the Human Rights Council (HRC) and its mechanisms and mandates.
• Assist in implementing the Section's work plan.
• Perform other tasks as directed by the Chief of Section or supervisor.

Experience Requirements

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.

Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in English or French is required.

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of French or English is an asset. Knowledge of another United Nations official language would be an advantage (i.e. Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).

Contract Duration: 6 months

Work Modality: In-Person

Remuneration: Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
