Overview
Provides specialized advice and technical support to the Office of the Special Envoy in identifying, analyzing, and monitoring political developments. Handles correspondence, drafts documents, and liaises with various stakeholders.
Tasks Summary
- Provides specialized advice and technical support in identifying, analyzing and monitoring political developments.
- Brings matters requiring the Special Envoy's attention to their notice and makes recommendations.
- Handles incoming and outgoing correspondence of the Special Envoy.
- Drafts correspondence for the Special Envoy's signature, code cables and reports to the Security Council.
- Liaises and maintains working relationships with officials of state institutions, political parties, civil society organizations and religious actors.
- Plans, organizes and manages conferences, meetings, seminars and workshops.
- Coordinates actions related to the transition towards United Nations agency-led commitment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in political affairs, diplomacy, conflict resolution, or related extensive experience in political outreach, facilitation, analysis, advice and reporting is required.
- Experience working in a disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution or related area is desirable.
- At least one year of experience supporting a Special Envoy or Head of Mission in ongoing political negotiations/mediation is desirable.
- Experience working in the Middle East/North Africa region on political issues is desirable.
- Experience working in or in support of a field operation of the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization or non-governmental organization is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Political Science, Management or Development, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Professional training in the areas of planning, facilitation and/or coordination is desirable.
