Overview

The Project Intern will support the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Brazil with tasks related to its thematic areas, including translation, report assistance, research, and database construction.

Tasks Summary
  • Translate documents from Portuguese, English and, occasionally, Spanish;
  • Assist in the production of reports and analyses related to UNODC's thematic areas;
  • Support the drafting of instructional documents on project management and implementation;
  • Conduct research to gather input related to the themes of UNODC's mandate;
  • Assist in the construction of a simple database and in the construction of graphical visualizations of this information;
  • Support the preparation of presentations and briefings;
  • Assist in the management of agendas and events;
  • Provide support for consultancy management processes;
  • Support the preparation of meeting agendas and minutes;
  • Participate in internal and external meetings;
  • Communicate with other collaborators to gather information and documents necessary for the project;
  • Support the preparation of terms of reference for contracting companies and personnel;
  • Assist in simple data collection and processing processes;
  • Assist in writing reports on the status of project implementation;
  • Perform other related tasks when requested.
Experience Requirements

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Previous internship experience in International Organizations or government is desirable.

Qualification Requirements
  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications;
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.
Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in spoken and written Portuguese and English is required for the internship.

Languages Preferred: Fluency in Spanish is an advantage.

Contract Duration: 6 months

Work Modality: Remote Part-time

Remuneration: The internship is UNPAID and interns work five days per week (part time - 20 hours). Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
