Overview

Support the intensification of epidemiological surveillance and coordinate vaccination campaigns in Angola.

Tasks Summary
  • Support the intensification of PFA surveillance in the affected province and adjacent areas.
  • Coordinate and monitor the execution of planned vaccination campaigns.
  • Contributes to the collection and analysis of epidemiological data to inform strategic decisions.
  • Strengthen local capacities to respond to the outbreak by promoting interventions with a sustainable impact
  • Perform active case search, according to the recommended number of visits per category of each notification site, using the online checklist on the ODK platform.
  • Provide technical support in the training of various health technicians and surveillance focal points at provincial, district and health unit levels.
  • Conduct advocacy visits to health authorities at provincial, district and health facility levels, with the aim of strengthening local commitment, proactive participation and ownership of epidemiological surveillance activities.
  • Share the monthly work plan and activities carried out with WHO and other stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support at provincial, municipal, and health facility levels to adapt and develop polio outbreak immunization response micro plans, in collaboration with local leaders and health authorities.
  • Provide technical support for the recruitment and selection of vaccination team members, in collaboration with local traditional, religious and political leaders, ensuring that each member acts within their area of residence.
  • Support and guide team members in the preparation of the daily work plan/itinerary for vaccination activities, including the use of maps.
  • Support the planning and distribution of vaccines, data collection tools and other immunization materials, from the municipal level to the coordination areas and teams; at the end of each day, support the accountability process of the vaccine vials used.
  • Provide technical support at provincial, municipal, and health facility levels to adapt and develop micro plans based on the revised REC – Reach Every Child strategy, to improve and scale up the delivery of routine immunization services.
  • Perform any other tasks related to the workstation as requested by your supervisor.
  • Any other related tasks may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience in notifiable disease surveillance and/or immunization services provision at district, provincial or national level
  • Field experience in public health case-based surveillance and immunization response activities at the subnational level will also be considered an advantage
  • Desirable: Experience responding to outbreaks of polio or other vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles, yellow fever, and other health emergencies. Experience at the WHO or another United Nations agency.
Qualification Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in health sciences/public health, medicine, nursing, laboratory, environmental sanitation, or in a discipline related to emergency and disaster management, obtained from a recognized institution.
  • Desirable: Training in surveillance and immunization will be considered an advantage
