Overview

The Forestry Officer (Restoration Monitoring) is responsible for leading FAO's work related to restoration monitoring, specifically the monitoring and reporting platform for the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, Target 2 of the Global Biodiversity Framework, and the Framework for Ecosystem Restoration Monitoring.

Tasks Summary
  • Coordinates the development and application of the Framework for Ecosystem Restoration Monitoring (FERM).
  • Coordinates the implementation of Accelerating Innovative Monitoring for Nature Restoration (AIM4NatuRe).
  • Coordinates the provision of monitoring support to Flagship initiatives of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
  • Coordinates the Task Force on Monitoring in support to the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and the Target 2 Roadmap.
  • Contributes to the coordination of cross-sectoral and inter-divisional cooperation and collaboration on the monitoring of different ecosystems.
  • Ensures the provision of regular monitoring and reporting of the progress of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
  • Leads the provision of capacity development support for restoration monitoring.
  • Supports the development of restoration monitoring modules in the SEPAL platform and other projects and programmes with restoration monitoring elements.
  • Performs any other duties, as required.
Experience Requirements
  • Seven years of relevant experience in forest and land management or monitoring, or a related field.
  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions, is desirable.
  • Depth of knowledge of forest monitoring and restoration monitoring.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in the development of innovative technical solutions for forest and restoration monitoring.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in country support on forest and restoration monitoring and the delivery of regional/national capacity-development workshops.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in different countries and regions, especially in developing countries and countries in transition.
  • Ability to mobilize resources.
Qualification Requirements

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in forestry, natural resource management or a related field.

Other Details

Languages Required: Working knowledge (proficiency - level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (intermediate proficiency - level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).
