Overview

The Consultant (Participatory Public Spaces Design - Preliminary Projects) will translate outputs from participatory design workshops into basic urban design proposals for public spaces in Juiz de Fora, Brazil. The role supports UN-Habitat's mandate in sustainable urban development and aims to improve the quality of life through inclusive public spaces.

Tasks Summary
  • Develop project materials including visual presentations, participatory mapping tools, and activity scripts.
  • Analyze participatory workshop results to derive actionable insights for urban design.
  • Conduct territorial analysis of selected public spaces.
  • Develop strategic recommendations for urban safety, inclusion, accessibility, and quality of life.
  • Systematize the process through organized documentation.
  • Present results and deliverables to UN-Habitat and local partners.
  • Ensure compliance with UN-Habitat standards for visibility, data protection, and ethics.
  • Participate in meetings with UN-Habitat teams, the Municipality of Juiz de Fora, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure all content aligns with UN-Habitat standards and protocols.
  • Complete required training activities, including the BSAFE security course.
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum four (4) years of professional experience providing technical support for the development of participatory urban design projects in Brazil is required.
  • Previous professional experience working with informal settlements is desirable.
  • Previous academic or professional experience working with the 2030 Agenda and NUA is desirable.
  • Previous experience within the UN System is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Urban Planning is required, or additional three (3) years of relevant experience to the post, beyond the requirement.
  • Postgraduate degree or specialized training in architecture, urban planning, urban design, public space design, sustainable urbanism or related fields is desirable.
Other Details

Languages Required: • Fluency in Portuguese is required.

Languages Preferred: • Working knowledge of Spanish and English is desirable.

Contract Duration: Four (4) months

Work Modality:

Remuneration: LICA 2 (part-time 50%) – BRL: 15.566 (Total net amount) • Payment 1 [30%]: Upon delivery and approval of Product 1 (BRL: 4.669,80) • Payment 2 [30%]: Upon delivery and approval of Product 2 (BRL: 4.669,80) • Payment 3 [40%]: Upon delivery and approval of Product 3 (BRL: 6.226,40)
