Overview
The Senior Economist will provide expertise in macroeconomic and fiscal policy to support Mauritania's development agenda. The role involves leading analytical work, policy dialogue, and operations to promote private sector-led, inclusive growth.
Tasks Summary
- Lead macroeconomic monitoring, including the Macro and Poverty Outlook and annual Economic Update.
- Lead policy dialogue on macroeconomic, fiscal policy, and economic growth issues with authorities, IMF, development agencies, and non-government stakeholders.
- Lead fiscal and debt analytical and advisory services, including Public Finance Reviews and Debt Sustainability Analysis.
- Lead core country diagnostics such as Country Growth and Jobs reports and other growth diagnostics.
- Co-lead work on the Climate Change Development Report and associated engagements.
- Lead Development Policy Operations or other lending operations focused on economic and fiscal reforms.
- Advise sector teams on macroeconomic and fiscal implications of sector policies and investment decisions.
- Provide analytical inputs and advise the Country Management Unit on country strategic engagement and economic policy issues.
- Actively develop new business contributing to Mauritania's development agenda.
Experience Requirements
- At least 8 years of relevant professional experience.
- Track record of delivery of high quality analytical and advisory products.
- Experience in leading high impact development policy operations.
- Sound knowledge of Bank lending tools and procedures.
- Previous experience in delivering high impact work in a country under economic transformation would be a plus.
Qualification Requirements
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in economics.
- Ph.D. preferred.
