Overview
The Senior Strategy Expert will support the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in developing strategic frameworks and implementation plans for the Global Framework for Chemicals.
Tasks Summary
- Draft a concept note on the legislative dimension of enabling industry action along value chains.
- Provide technical input to the development of UNEP legislation guidance on innovative approaches to manage chemicals.
- Develop a draft GFC Industry Self-Assessment Tool.
- Develop practical indicators and benchmarks to help measure industry implementation of the GFC along value chains.
- Prepare a guidance note for, and coordinate with UNEP/IOMC focal points.
- Support UNEPs regular engagement in the IOMC IP Working Group.
- Support UNEPs contribution to the development of IOMC coordinated IP workplans and TORs.
- Participate in regular calls with the UNEP GFC team and individual UNEP staff.
- Support the development of events at IC1 and provide guidance for the implementation.
- Review and support development of proposals for IC1 events.
- Work with UNEP staff in identifying front-runners’ stakeholders to showcase good practices.
- Provide technical support to the development of awareness-raising materials, needs assessment and guidance to engage private sector investors.
- Develop strategic recommendations on how to scale up momentum generated on Implementation Programme generated at the first International Conference and engage additional industry stakeholders along value chains.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 20 years of previous international experience in the field of waste management.
- Minimum 20 years of previous international experience in the field of international chemicals and waste management.
- Working with global and technical and policy publication(s) is required.
- Demonstrated professional competence and knowledge of topics relating to the Global Framework on Chemicals is required.
- Working experience with UNEP publications is an asset.
- Working experience with UN system is an advantage.
Qualification Requirements
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in chemicals and waste management, environmental studies, environmental governance, international sustainable development, or other relevant discipline.
