Overview

This internship supports the Ministry of Energy and the UN Country Team in coordination, knowledge management, communications, and event organization related to climate action, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and just transition.

Tasks Summary
  • Support the planning, organization, and delivery of joint UN–Government events.
  • Assist in preparing concept notes, meeting minutes, logistical plans, participant lists, and follow up actions.
  • Assist in drafting, researching, and formatting project proposals.
  • Support background research and data collection for climate and energy related initiatives.
  • Contribute to analytical briefs, situation overviews, and donor mapping exercises.
  • Drafting short communication products: social media posts, stories, infographics, fact sheets, and event summaries.
  • Support visibility efforts for national campaigns and UN–Government initiatives.
  • Support the collection and organization of data relevant to energy and climate policy.
  • Assist with the use of new digital and AI tools for improved analytics and reporting.
  • Assist in providing logistical support for in person and hybrid meetings.
  • Support preparation of agendas, briefing packages, and documentation.
  • Any additional responsibilities requested by the RCO related to the energy transition and climate agenda.
Experience Requirements
  • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
  • Experience on research in climate change, renewable energy, public policy is required.
  • Experience in organizing events is an asset.
Qualification Requirements
  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • A field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Fields of study may include: environmental studies, engineering, energy systems, climate science, economics, social sciences, public policy, communications, or related areas.
  • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.
Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in English is required.

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of Macedonian and Albanian is desirable.

Contract Duration: 16.03.26-15.09.26

Work Modality: in-person at the RCO North Macedonia

Remuneration: Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
