Overview

The consultant will act as Technical Lead, PPG Operations for two projects focused on natural ecosystems restoration, integrated landscape management, and establishing terrestrial protected areas in Djibouti. The role involves managing PPG activities, consultants, stakeholder consultations, and deliverables to ensure coherence, quality, and compliance.

Tasks Summary
  • Act as Technical Lead, PPG Operations for all PPG activities for the two projects.
  • Manage consultants, stakeholder consultations, and deliverables.
  • Ensure overall coherence, quality assurance, and compliance with agreed timelines.
  • Sequentially lead the development of the Djibouti MSP and Djibouti GBFF on the ground.
Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in the field of biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, protected areas management, natural resources, climate change or related field.
  • Demonstrable experience in the development and design of GEF projects and/or programmes is required.
  • Demonstrable experience in the coordination and design of GEF projects and/or programmes is required.
  • Technical and intellectual skills in biodiversity management, landscape management, wildlife management and enforcement, protected area management, sustainable land and fisheries management and gender equality is desirable.
  • Experience in integrated policy development processes associated with environment and sustainable development issues is desired.
  • Demonstrable expertise in managing relationships and developing and maintaining strategic partnerships including across government and non-government actors is desirable.
  • Experience working with international organizations, especially UNEP and the GEF, is desired.
Qualification Requirements
  • A Master’s degree in environmental sciences, international development or other relevant political or social sciences area is required.
  • A first-level university degree, combined with two additional years of relevant professional experience in the required field, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Languages Required: • Fluency in English and French is required.

Languages Preferred: • Working knowledge of another UN Language is desirable.
