Overview
The Programme Management Officer will be responsible for identifying and developing projects, supervising their implementation, managing knowledge and data within the Ecosystems Division, and undertaking corporate tasks for UNEP and the Global Environment Facility.
Tasks Summary
- Liaise with partners to identify project concepts.
- Advise project proponents on concept revisions.
- Monitor Global Environment Facility project milestones.
- Supervise Project Preparation Grant execution.
- Verify project proposals meet quality standards.
- Support executing partners in mobilizing Co-financing.
- Prepare project supervision plans.
- Organize and manage project inception meetings.
- Provide oversight to project execution and prepare reports.
- Participate in Project Steering Committees.
- Monitor project progress and performance.
- Monitor reporting by project executing partners.
- Inform management of significant risks or project problems.
- Maintain adequate project-related documentation.
- Assist with the preparation of project revisions.
- Review project outputs and ensure quality standards.
- Manage mandatory project mid-term reviews.
- Support project terminal evaluations.
- Ensure prompt financial closure of projects.
- Identify and codify lessons from project implementation.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of project data.
- Contribute to project data reconciliation exercises.
- Identify outreach opportunities and provide project information.
- Participate in events to disseminate project results.
- Contribute to Council document reviews.
- Represent Ecosystem Division in meetings.
- Provide input to policy and information documents.
- Provide input to evaluations and Management Action Record.
- Keep abreast of developments in technical field.
- Undertake learning activities.
- Prepare annual work plans.
- Collect and analyze data for insights and reporting.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in biodiversity and land degradation issues in the Latin America and the Caribbean developing countries / countries in transition is required.
- Experience with conceptualizing and developing projects and programmes in the ecosystems and biodiversity field is required.
- Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in biodiversity sciences, environmental sciences, natural resource management, natural resource policy, environmental policy, environmental economics or a closely related field is required.
- A first level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of relevant qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
