Overview
WFP is seeking an Agrometeorologist to support weather and climate data analysis, agromet advisories, forecast models, and risk-informed scenario planning. The role aims to provide expert technical advice to WFP and the Government in interpreting weather and climate information for resilience building and anticipatory action.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Government (especially PAGASA) to develop localized early warning triggers and thresholds.
- Co-design tools, guidelines, and conduct workshops to integrate agrometeorology aspects into climate resilience and risk management programmes.
- Explore integration of vulnerability and exposure analysis with early warning products.
- Provide technical recommendations on planting calendars and crop selection.
- Co-design last-mile climate services that translate forecasts into actionable guidance for farmers and communities.
- Assess climate impacts on crop yields and food security.
- Produce climate bulletins, agromet advisories, technical briefs, and knowledge products.
- Collaborate with the RAM unit in analysis of seasonal climate outlooks and event-specific forecasts and risk maps.
Required Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in agrometeorology, climate data analysis, early warning systems, climate services, and climate-smart agriculture advisories, including collaboration with government agencies and partners.
- Preferably experience in impact-based forecasting/analysis of potential impact of natural hazard risks.
- Experience with the design and implementation of agro-climate services program.
- Experience in delivering oral and written weather briefings to technical and non-technical audiences and/or contributing to multi-stakeholder reports and briefings.
- Familiarity with early warning systems, disaster risk financing, and anticipatory action frameworks.
Qualifications
An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Agrometeorology, Meteorology, Climate Science, Agricultural Science/Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field is required; OR a first level university degree in a relevant field may be considered if combined with at least two (2) additional years of relevant professional experience and/or completion of related trainings or courses.
