Responsible for translating texts between Arabic and English, including political, social, legal, administrative, and technical documents, as well as witness statements, while meeting workload standards and deadlines.
A minimum of two years of experience in translation or in another relevant language field is required. Two years of experience in translation from English into Arabic in international criminal law is required. Experience working at the United Nations or a similar international organization is desirable. Familiarity with the context in Syria is desirable. Experience in the use of standard computer-assisted-translation (CAT) tools is desirable. Experience in translating technical texts from Arabic into English is desirable.
A first-level degree, preferably in a language-related field, from a university or an institution of equivalent status. (Candidates for this position must have passed the relevant United Nations Competitive Examination for Translators/Précis-Writers or the relevant combined United Nations Competitive Examination for Translators/Précis-writers, Editors, and Verbatim Reporters; this requirement will be waived for candidates who passed one of the relevant United Nations competitive examinations held before 2017 for Editors or Verbatim Reporters, subject to an assessment test to be conducted by the hiring manager as part of the Inspira selection process.)
