HEAVY VEHICLE OPERATOR, G4

Overview

Operates material handling equipment, engineering equipment, buses, and trucks to transport passengers, cargo, and hazardous goods within the mission's area of operation. Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles and performing minor repairs.

Key Responsibilities

• Operates Trucks and Material Handling Equipment (MHE) transporting cargo, passengers and hazardous goods.
• Recovers vehicles at team sites and throughout the mission area.
• Assists the workshop in the preparation of trucks for field trips.
• Drives specialized vehicles, armored vehicles, medium buses.
• Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles.
• Makes deliveries of parcels, documents, etc.
• Makes minor purchases and collect urgent purchases from local suppliers.
• Collects goods from the customs.
• Drives vehicles safely for the transport of authorized personnel and general cargo.
• Liaises with Dispatch Supervisor on vehicle maintenance issues.
• Ensures steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of an accident.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Experience

A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in heavy Vehicle/Truck driving is required. Experience in driving armored vehicles and in operating Material Handling equipment is required. Clean driving Record is required. Experience working in a United Nations common system field operation or similar international organization or non-governmental organization is desired. Technical knowledge in vehicle repair and maintenance is desirable.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Possession of valid official national commercial driving/operator license (category B&C) is required. Defensive armored Driving vehicle certificate is desirable. Safe Technical or vocational diploma or certificate or equivalent on automotive industry is desirable.
