Overview

Support the draft of a publication on KAFO operations and coordinate cross-border operations to combat firearms trafficking.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support the draft of a publication on KAFO operations, including achievements.
  • Develop Terms of Reference (ToRs) and timeline for each activity and submit activities for validation.
  • Collect national action plans and develop an integrated regional plan for the operation.
  • Consolidate and align budgets and resources in coordination with national platforms and program management.
  • Ensure fluidity of information and regular communication with national coordination platforms and program management.
  • Organize weekly meetings with national and regional coordination with reports shared.
  • Produce and share bi-weekly reports with recommendations on process improvements and corrective actions.
  • Ensure implementation of national operational plans by Member States, including trainings and assessments missions, and provide advice.
  • Produce a consolidated daily report during Operation KAFO VII using countries daily reports.
  • Work in close collaboration with experts at country level, UNODC and other technical partners.
  • Support data collection efforts and liaise with Member States for data collection and analysis on illicit firearms trafficking.
  • Ensure fluidity of information and communication with national authorities and focal points on data collection.
  • Produced KAFO VI final report, including recommendations, lessons learned and good practices.
  • Organized the final debriefing meeting of the operation and the final report.
Required Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of practical professional experience, knowledge and understanding of the international legal framework on arms control and organized crime incl. knowledge of the Firearms Protocol and its intergovernmental processes is required.
  • Experience in developing strategies and coordinating activities, including institutional advocacy with national and regional policy makers, evidenced by established relationships with key contacts among policy makers in the region is desirable.
  • Ability to facilitate coalitions and establish solid partnerships with technical executives and experts from various professional backgrounds is desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including a proven ability to build relationships with key contacts in the media, civil society and policy makers in West Africa is desirable.
  • Excellent administrative and project management skills and excellent organizational skills is desirable.
  • Ability to work as a member of a diverse and geographically dispersed team, with minimal supervision is desirable.

fluency in oral and written English and French is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of another United Nations Secretariat language is an advantage.
