Overview

Provide Maritime Engineering technical assistance and training to Maritime Law Enforcement (MLE) authorities in the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea region.


Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with countries and agencies to identify assistance needs.
  • Prepare Maritime Engineering training materials.
  • Provide Maritime Engineering technical assistance and on-the-job training.
  • Elaborate end of activity or mission reports.
  • Contribute newsletter inputs and support coordination of activities.
  • Identify training needs and review operational logistics.
  • Complete monitoring and evaluation requirements.
  • Submit photos and descriptions for visibility materials.
  • Upload relevant documents to Basecamp and SharePoint.
Required Experience
  • At least 7 years of relevant working experience and expertise in a maritime technical environment is required.
  • Proven experience working in a related field in a difficult/conflict environment is required.
  • Experience as a police/defense forces trainer is desirable.
  • Experience of training in an international environment is desirable.
  • Basic IT skills are desirable.
Qualifications

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in criminal justice, Science, Engineering, Marine Systems Engineering, Naval Architecture or other related fields is required. A first-level university degree in the aforementioned fields in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying work experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Formal qualifications or certifications from a recognized national or international customs authority, police academy, or military-training institution, supplemented by specialization in criminal justice, crime prevention, or law enforcement, in combination with four (4) additional years of qualifying work experience, may be accepted in lieu of the first level university degree.

Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Home-based with travel to Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia (Addis Ababa and Bishoftu), Kenya (Nairobi and Mombasa), Pakistan, Somalia (Mogadishu, Hargeisa, Berbera, Garowe and Bossaso), Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Yemen.
