Overview
The Urban Planner will develop a comprehensive, participatory, and GIS-based Local Physical and Land Use Development Plan for Muhoroni Town to guide sustainable urban growth, land use, and infrastructure development.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a legally compliant framework for sustainable urban growth, land use, and infrastructure development.
- Promote environmental protection and climate resilience.
- Foster inclusive socio-economic development.
- Strengthen land governance and service delivery.
- Include a Capital Investment Plan and an implementation and monitoring framework.
- Develop a digitized GIS database.
- Mentor young professionals in the built environment sector.
Required Experience
- A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in Urban Planning / Regional Planning.
- Significant experience directly related to different aspects of urban planning such as city-wide planning, informal settlements upgrading, urban extension plans, urban regeneration and renewal, urban redevelopment, land management, landscape and public space design.
- Experience in organizing participatory planning activities and conducting capacity development activities.
- Experience in interacting, collaborating, working and effectively managing partnerships with high level government officials/institutions and development partners.
- Previous experience in the UN system is an asset.
Qualifications
- An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, or a related field is required.
- A first-level university degree in the above fields, combined with additional relevant professional experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- License by the Physical Planners Registration Board in Kenya is highly desirable.
