Overview

This internship is located in the Office of the Assistant-General for Human Resources (OASG OHR) in the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC), in New York. The intern will assist in the design, development, installation, testing, and maintenance of information systems.


Key Responsibilities
  • Participates in preparing user requirements and other technical specifications.
  • Assists in the design, development and installation of information systems.
  • Undertakes analysis of well-defined modules within the system, develop enhancements and new features to existing systems; may design and implement small, stand-alone systems as needed.
  • Undertakes rigorous testing and proving of applications software.
  • Maintains assigned portions of systems, providing operational support for system’s applications, analyzing and implementing system changes/upgrades.
  • Writes and develops programs to interface with existing systems.
  • Ensures data security and integrity.
  • Prepares, updates and maintains system’s documentation and related technical/procedural manuals.
  • Assists in the set-up and monitoring of software performance measures.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.

Qualifications
  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Excel and MS Teams.

Languages Required
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
Contract Duration
6 months (flexible)
Work Modality
full-time and in person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate
Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
