Overview
The purpose of this consultancy is to assess the status of child environmental health in the Maldives, identifying policy gaps, key priorities, and outlining practical actions for government and partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess the key environmental risks affecting children in the Maldives—with a focus on air pollution, lead exposure, and major climate/environmental hazards.
- Review current national policies, regulations, and institutional arrangements related to air quality, chemical/lead safety, waste and environmental health, and climate‑related risks, identifying major gaps and areas requiring improvement.
- Recommend priority actions for government and partners to improve Children’s Environmental Health, providing practical, HEHC‑aligned guidance for programming, policy development, and next steps.
Required Experience
- At least three years of relevant professional experience in the areas of public health, environmental health
- Demonstrated experience in conducting similar assessments - design of studies and assessments, and conducting research related to the environment, environmental health, child’s health, pollutants and/or toxic metals (e.g lead)
- Experience of handling health data monitoring & reporting, especially in a child health area
- Experience in capacity building, government relationship building, training and/or facilitation is an asset
- Past experience working in research initiatives is desirable.
- Experience producing research reports, literature reviews, policy briefs, or thematic analyses.
- Work experience in Health research or data analysis preferred.
- Expertise or high-level command of excel, SPSS and other data entry and analytical tools.
- Ability to develop dashboards, visualizations, and analytical briefs for policy advocacy and programme.
- Exposure or experience with Health systems is an asset.
- Experience in ethical research involving children, adolescents’ youth, and vulnerable communities will be desired.
- Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
Qualifications
• Master’s or postgraduate degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Medical Sciences, Epidemiology, Health research or any other related disciplines
