Overview

The Statistics intern will support the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) in various thematic areas, contributing to projects involving geospatial data collection, analysis, integration, and visualization.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct geospatial research and draft written contributions for reports, technical papers, and other documentation.
  • Contribute and prepare reports, analysis, policy briefs, and other documents related to geospatial information management, capacities and capabilities.
  • Draft inputs for a wide range of documents/reports, briefings/debriefings, correspondence, etc.
  • Produce materials for outreach, including maps, infographics, and social media content.
  • Contribute to data storytelling and visualization, including the creation of maps, dashboards, and supporting graphics.
  • Support the design, organization, and management of geospatial data compilation and dissemination.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and management of geospatial information systems and databases.
  • Support geospatial and statistical data integration workflows, including collection, cleaning, validation, analysis, and visualization.
  • Assist in maintaining geospatial databases and dashboards, ensuring data accuracy and usability.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.

Qualifications
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
  • Have good knowledge of standard software application, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams.

Languages Required
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable. Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable. Ability to develop software in Python or similar programming languages is desirable.
Contract Duration
2 - 6 months
Work Modality
full-time and in person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate. fully remote, hybrid (in-person and remote), part-time, and/or temporary FWA
Remuneration
The internship is UNPAID. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
