Overview

The Geospatial Information Intern will support the United Nations Statistics Division's work across various thematic areas, contributing to projects involving geospatial data collection, analysis, integration, and visualization.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct geospatial research and draft written contributions for reports, technical papers, and other documentation;
  • Contribute and prepare reports, analysis, policy briefs, and other documents related to geospatial information management, capacities and capabilities;
  • Drafts inputs for a wide range of documents/reports, briefings/debriefings, correspondence, etc;
  • Produce materials for outreach, including maps, infographics, and social media content;
  • Contribute to data storytelling and visualization, including the creation of maps, dashboards, and supporting graphics;
  • Support the design, organization, and management of geospatial data compilation and dissemination;
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and management of geospatial information systems and databases;
  • Support geospatial and statistical data integration workflows, including collection, cleaning, validation, analysis, and visualization;
  • Assist in maintaining geospatial databases and dashboards, ensuring data accuracy and usability;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work-experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Qualifications
  • be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent);
  • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD. Programme.
  • Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams.

Languages Required
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
Contract Duration
2 - 6 months

Remuneration
The internship is UNPAID.
