Overview

The Programme Management Officer will be responsible for project management within the UNEP Climate Change Division, focusing on the Cool Coalition's initiatives and supporting the implementation of climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.


Key Responsibilities
  • Develops and manages the Intergovernmental Committee on Cooling (IGCC), including its programme of work and budget.
  • Develops and manages agreements for IGCC workplan implementation.
  • Assists with resource mobilization and proposal development.
  • Prepares briefing notes and reports.
  • Plans and organizes IGCC focal point meetings and Ministerial roundtables.
  • Manages consultants for technical workshops, webinars, and outreach events.
  • Coordinates production of background materials for the Cool Coalition NDC/NCAP Implementation Working Group.
  • Supports work area co-leads in developing and delivering work plans.
  • Manages consultants for the development of regional NCAP/NDC Investment roadmaps, particularly in MENA countries.
  • Manages contracts with expert institutions for product development and peer-review processes.
  • Manages consultants to improve internal communication among IGCC and Cool Coalition members.
  • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends and provide insights for planning and reporting.
Required Experience
  • A minimum of five (5) years professional experience in climate and energy with a focus on programme/project management and national climate, energy and cooling policy and planning in the MENA region is required.
  • Work experience in operationalization of intergovernmental committees working with UNFCCC or similar international organization is required.
  • Work experience in coordination of high-level ministerial dialogues and international multi-stakeholder partnerships related to cooling and climate is required.
  • Work experience, or exposure, to working with the United Nations and/or similar international organization at the international level is desirable.
  • A minimum of two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Qualifications
  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field of study is required.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
