Overview

The Finance Associate position is located within the Global Monitoring and Advisory Team (GMAT), Finance Branch of the Division for Management Services. The Finance Associate provides support, guidance and oversight to UNFPA field offices and Headquarter Units in the areas of financial management and accounting.


Key Responsibilities
  • Actively participate in Finance Branch and team meetings.
  • Maintain active and positive relationships with key partners for GMAT.
  • Provide financial training and facilitate knowledge transfers.
  • Contribute to the global financial management community.
  • Support the review of reports received from implementing partners.
  • Provide guidance, support, and timely responses to queries from UNFPA Business Units.
  • Monitor dashboards for assigned financial accounts.
  • Monitor funds for closure and close in the ERP.
  • Prepare financial information from the ERP system to assist audits.
  • Support field offices in the implementation of procedural based audit recommendations.
  • Analyze asset transactions and requests to write off assets.
  • Review data integrity and completeness tools and support offices in their resolution.
  • Review accounting adjustments proposed by field offices.
  • Monitor and analyze balances in the project cash advance accounts.
  • Identify and support the resolution of exceptions and data entry errors.
  • Review aging analyses for assigned balance sheet accounts.
  • Support periodic and year end accounts closure activities.
  • Contribute ideas towards improving policies and procedures.
  • Participate in testing of new IT tools and reports.
  • Provide guidance to staff on the best application of reporting tools.
  • Carry out any other duties as may be required by your supervisor and/or UNFPA leadership.
Required Experience

Six (6) years of relevant finance and/or accounting related experience is required, such as financial management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, or general ledger maintenance. Proficiency in the use of spreadsheets, word processing and computerized accounting systems. Previous experience with a major ERP system, preferably Oracle cloud, is required. Previous experience with the UN system organizations is desirable.

Qualifications

Completion of secondary level education with supplemental training in accounting is required. First level University degree and/or a part- qualified accounting qualification from a recognized body is desirable.
