Overview
Lead and manage the United Nations Information Centre in Tehran, promoting public understanding and support for the UN's aims and activities within Iran.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the work programme of the centre, including programmatic and administrative tasks.
- Conceptualize, design, and execute communication programmes and activities in Iran.
- Oversee multimedia strategic communications campaigns and digital/social media content.
- Develop outreach to key target audiences, including youth.
- Supervise the creation and maintenance of networks of communications contacts.
- Provide substantive support to the Resident Coordinator and UNCT in adapting global communications priorities.
- Serve as UN spokesperson in Iran, liaising with national and international media.
- Manage internal and external digital communications platforms.
- Provide technical and policy advice on public information and communications issues.
- Conduct liaison work with government authorities in Iran regarding communications.
- Report to intergovernmental bodies on programmatic and substantive issues.
- Serve as Chair of the UN Communications Group (UNCG) in Iran.
- Provide crisis communications support.
- Supervise the organization of meetings and seminars related to communications.
- Measure and evaluate impact with timely reports to UN Headquarters.
- Build and strengthen synergies with other DGC field offices and RCOs/UNCTs.
Required Experience
- A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public information, communications, journalism, international relations or related area.
- Three years at the international level.
- Experience developing and executing strategic communications, and crisis communications, public speaking and working in and/or with traditional and digital media.
- Experience of at least two years with the political, social, and economic context of Iran.
- Experience of at least four years in resource administration, including budget preparation, human resources management and/or conflict management and resource mobilization.
- Experience supervising a team with a minimum of four staff, at an office, unit or section within the United Nations common system or a comparable international organization is desirable.
- Minimum three years of experience working in communications in the United Nations common system or a comparable international organization is desirable.
Qualifications
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in journalism, communication, public information, international relations or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
