Overview
The Communications Analyst implements the corporate communications strategy and provides input to the design, management, and implementation of regional office communications and publication strategies to influence the volunteering agenda and promote public and media outreach.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepares and conducts communications needs assessments.
- Drafts and edits the regional office communications and outreach strategy.
- Provides communication input to integrate communication needs and strategies.
- Maintains increased coverage and understanding of UNV’s work through local and global media stories.
- Identifies and develops storylines for publications and drafts substantive articles.
- Coordinates and manages country office publication activities.
- Liaises with and maintains a database of contact details for journalists.
- Provides support in implementing country office digital communication strategy.
- Generates content for the web site and other social media platforms.
- Promotes and maintains public information campaigns on UNV activities.
- Collects and packages information for donor review.
- Organizes roundtable discussions, press conferences, briefing sessions, interviews, launches.
- Supports “One UN” agenda.
- Ensures access of journalists to subject-matter experts and UNV spokespeople.
- Provides sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice.
- Provides training, consultancy, and advice to UNV staff on internal and external communications.
- Maintains Regional Office Sharepoint on regional activities for internal knowledge sharing.
- May supervise the Communications personnel in the Regional Office.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 2 years (with master’s degree) or 4 years (with bachelor’s degree) of relevant experience at the national or international level in public relations, advocacy, or communications is required.
- Experience in the use of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
- Advanced knowledge of web-based management systems such as ERP.
- Experience in content management systems, social media and graphic design.
- Knowledge and experience in handling of web-based management systems.
- Previous experience working in a multilateral or international organization.
- Proficiency in the use of content management systems, HTML coding, photo editing tools and other web publishing tools.
- At least 2 years’ experience in communications, outreach, public relations or advocacy is required.
- Experience in strategic implementation of online and other tools is desired.
- Previous experience working in a multilateral or international organization is desired.
- Experience in coordinating and managing outreach activities and content is desired.
- Experience in marketing activities for international organizations with multi-regional presence is desired.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in Communication, Journalism, International Relations, Public Administration, or related field is required, or
- A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the areas mentioned above in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience.
