Overview
The role involves providing timely ambulance transportation services to patients, ensuring prompt emergency responses, and assisting the medical team. The primary purpose is to maintain continuous 24/7 ambulance coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport patients to hospitals or other specified destinations within Addis Ababa, following instructions from physicians and nurses.
- Drive UN vehicles and ambulances safely, prioritizing patient comfort.
- Deliver punctual, efficient, courteous, and accessible ambulance services.
- Facilitate airport security clearances and obtain pass permissions for air ambulance medical evacuations.
- Assist the medical team with stretcher changes, provide first aid when necessary, and handle medical equipment.
- Apply safe patient-lifting techniques and use stretchers and stair chairs.
- Report relevant emergency factors immediately to hospital personnel, legal authorities, or traffic enforcement.
- Maintain a daily log of significant incidents, comments, or complaints.
- Meet patients, UNHCC medical team, or official personnel at the airport when required.
- Deliver parcels, documents, and other items between offices and institutions.
- Provide shuttle service to UNHCC staff when required.
- Carry out routine vehicle maintenance and undertake minor repairs.
- Record fuel transport services in log-book records.
- Make minor and urgent purchases from local suppliers.
- Collect goods or medicines from drug stores.
- Ensure all necessary steps are followed in the event of an accident.
Required Experience
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required.
- Experience in operating a range of vehicle types, including vans and other motorized vehicles, is essential.
- Experience driving an ambulance is an advantage.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Driver training with a valid third-level driver’s license is essential.
- Automotive certificates, defensive driving training, First Aid/Basic Life Support, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Paramedic certification are advantageous.
