Overview
Develop a Strategic Roadmap for UNCCD Engagement in Combating Sand and Dust Storms (2026-2035) and a resource mobilization strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- - Assess key technical challenges in SDS management, including source mapping, monitoring, early warning systems, mitigation, and adaptation.
- - Review scientific and socio-economic linkages of SDS to land degradation, restoration, food security, and economic costs.
- - Map key actors in the SDS domain, including UN entities, regional bodies, scientific institutions, IFIs, civil society, and the private sector.
- - Stocktake UNCCD’s current progress and mandate related to SDS.
- - Facilitate stakeholder validation and political engagement, including a pre-COP consultation meeting and COP-side events.
- - Identify strategic opportunities for UNCCD engagement as a member of the Coalition on Sand and Dust Storms and as a technical lead.
- - Develop a preliminary resource mobilization strategy, identifying potential funding sources and outlining a plan for bankable projects.
Required Experience
- - Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in strategic planning, policy development, and project management in the context of environment and sustainable development.
- - Proven knowledge of sand and dust storms, including its causes, impacts, and mitigation strategies.
- - Experience in organizing and facilitating high-level political dialogues and multi-stakeholder consultations, preferably within the UN framework.
- - Proven experience in stakeholder engagement and partnership building within the UN system.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or PhD) in engineering, science, international relations, public policy, natural resource management, or a related field.
