Overview
This internship involves conducting open-source research, collection, and analysis on topics relevant to the mandate of the Independent Institution on Missing Persons in the Syrian Arab Republic (IIMP). The role supports the Data and Digital Analysis Section in preparing analytical reports and engaging with victims and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting targeted open-source research, collection and analysis on topics of relevance to the mandate of IIMP.
- Contributing to the preparation of analytical reports and other work products, including through translation as needed.
- Reviewing information and documentation collected and archived.
- Assisting with interviews or other forms of engagements with victims, survivors and/or families of missing or disappeared persons.
- Keeping abreast of the situation in Syria and sharing information with the team.
Required Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. Familiarity with open-source research and investigation methodologies is desirable. Any prior training, academic or professional experience in online research and analysis of open-source intelligence, including from social media, is an asset. Experience in a multicultural international work environment is an asset.
Qualifications
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
- Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.
