Overview

The Independent Institution on Missing Persons in the Syrian Arab Republic (IIMP) is seeking an intern to conduct open-source research, collection, and analysis relevant to its mandate. The role involves contributing to analytical reports and reviewing collected information.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conducting targeted open-source research, collection and analysis, on topics of relevance to the mandate of IIMP
  • Contributing to the preparation of analytical reports and other work products, including through translation as needed
  • Reviewing information and documentation collected and archived
  • Assisting with interviews or other forms of engagements with victims, survivors and/or families of missing or disappeared persons, as related to the work of the Section
  • Keeping abreast of the situation in Syria and sharing information with the team
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be familiar with open-source research and investigation methodologies. Any prior training, academic or professional experience in online research and analysis of open-source intelligence, including from social media, is desirable. Experience in a multicultural international work environment is an asset.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
