Overview

The Human Rights Officer (Analyst/Reporting Officer) will review and analyze information collected for the Fact Finding Mission for the Sudan, advise on addressing gaps and following leads, and coordinate the drafting of reports.


Key Responsibilities
  • - Reviews and analyses information collected and advises the Fact Finding Mission staff on addressing gaps and following leads;
  • - Identifies gaps and orients the investigation accordingly;
  • - Coordinates closely with the Legal Adviser to ensure information collected corresponds to the required legal elements;
  • - Coordinates closely with the Gender Adviser to ensure gender perspectives are integrated throughout the investigation, and during analysis and report drafting;
  • - Prepares briefings, summaries of information gathered and analytical documents;
  • - Coordinates the drafting of the Fact Finding Mission’s reports, and any other report produced by the Fact-Finding Mission and acts as its main drafter;
  • - Ensures that information collected is properly documented, in accordance with standard OHCHR methodology;
  • - Assists in drawing analytical conclusions;
  • - Proposes the structure of reports and visualisation of the Fact Finding Mission’s findings and conclusions;
  • - Assists in developing actionable and gender-sensitive recommendations;
  • - Performs other duties as required.
Required Experience

A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible work experience in human rights, international humanitarian law or international criminal law is required. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the analysis and drafting of public human rights reports is required. Relevant working experience in or on the region is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in law, political science, international relations or another discipline related to human rights is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
Languages Preferred
Fluency in Arabic is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
Contract Duration
Until 30 September 2026, subject to availability of funding and/or extension of the mandate.
