Overview
This internship provides training and professional experience in inclusive governance and gender equality, focusing on marginalized groups, LGBTI people, and HIV-related key populations within the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Angola.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn how UNDP Angola structures its projects and policies, while assisting with routine tasks.
- Gain exposure to methodologies for data collection, analysis, and reporting in a development context of LGBTI inclusion and right issues.
- Participate in the mapping process of key stakeholders for potential engagement with the #WeBelongAfrica programme and other governance-related initiatives.
- Learn how to contribute to strategy development and implementation of #WeBelongAfrica workplan in the country, targeting and facilitating interactions with relevant stakeholders, under supervision.
- Support desk research and background analysis on governance-related themes, particularly on inclusion.
- Learn how the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the Country Office Gender Strategy works, and other gender mainstreaming initiatives in the Country Office.
- Provide logistical and coordination support for meetings, workshops, consultations, and events organized by the programme, including preparation of agendas, participant lists, and meeting materials.
- Learn the basics of financial and operational compliance in project execution.
- Support the drafting and editing of internal documents such as concept notes, briefs, presentations, meeting summaries, and progress notes related to governance programs.
- Participate in the training for the operations/projects staff on LGBTI and KP inclusion, women’s rights, and feminist approaches to development issues.
- Provide support to the implementation of ongoing SDIC Unit projects and initiatives, including preparation of workplans, activity tracking, and documentation of results.
- Carry out assigned tasks in a professional manner, respecting UNDP rules, ethical standards, and confidentiality requirements.
- Perform other duties related to the work of the SDIC, as required and appropriate to the learning nature of the internship.
Required Experience
- No professional experience required.
- Previous exposure or engagement with LGBTI people, SOGIESC themes, gender equality, women’s rights, and sensitivity to working with front-line activists is desirable.
Qualifications
- Enrolled student of a degree programme or completed 4 years of full-time studies at a university in the field of Social Sciences with priority for Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Law, and other related disciplines
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
- Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
