Overview
The Specialist for Terminology & Acquis Management provides technical expertise to North Macedonia’s national authorities to design and establish sustainable governance structures, workflows, and coordination mechanisms for the legal revision and terminology management of the EU acquis.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research for comparative analysis of institutional approaches and best practices related to EU acquis coordination, terminology management, and revision.
- Compile data on specific experiences of selected European countries.
- Assist in reviewing institutional models within EU institutions, focusing on legal-linguistic revision processes.
- Provide recommendations on arrangements, workflows, quality assurance mechanisms, and terminology management practices.
- Support the development of recommendations for a coordination model for translation, legal and expert revision, and terminology management.
- Draft initial proposals regarding institutional roles, responsibilities, and cooperation modalities.
- Provide technical assistance in drafting operational arrangements for a national structure responsible for verification of translated EU acquis texts.
- Support the establishment of a pool of subject-matter experts and develop recommendations for its integration.
- Provide technical support on how revision and verification mechanisms can support terminology unification and consistency.
- Assist in the preparation of procedural documents and guidance notes for sustainable terminology management.
- Monitor translated acquis texts to ensure expert guidance on legal terminology is correctly reflected.
- Lead the logistical and technical preparation and deliver at least two workshops.
- Prepare draft presentation materials, technical briefs, and reports for stakeholder review.
- Support the Project Manager in strengthening system-level coordination by facilitating communication.
Required Experience
- Relevant professional experience in EU accession-related work, legal approximation, terminology management, or legal-technical revision.
- Proven experience with coordination mechanisms for translation and/or legal review.
- Desired experience in EU institutions or EU accession administrations dealing with acquis translation, legal revision, or terminology management.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree in law, EU law, linguistics, translation studies, public administration, European studies, or a related field with 5 years of relevant experience.
- OR A first-level university degree in any of the above or related fields with 7 years of relevant experience.
