Overview
The Radio Operator provides operational support for communication and vehicle tracking during missions in the Savanes region, ensuring the proper functioning of UN communication systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Assure communications with different UN stations via HF, Telephone, Smartphone, and email, and manages received and sent messages.
- Tracks the movements of personnel during field missions.
- Conducts daily HF radio checks with field offices and daily VHF radio checks in Dapaong, maintaining follow-up sheets and reporting to the security advisor.
- Monitors VHF and HF networks, identifying unauthorized users.
- Maintains daily radio room presence for security messages.
- Confers with supervisor on improving network and inter-agency radio room service performance.
- Guides users of the common telecommunication network.
- Maintains telecommunication equipment in good working order.
- Reports any network irregularities or equipment malfunctions.
- Keeps records of various activities in the radio room.
- Maintains an inventory of common telecommunication equipment and that of UN System telecommunication network users in Dapaong.
- Updates directories of UN Agency telephone numbers and radio call signs in Dapaong.
- Centralizes received mail and submits it to the security department.
- Assists in training and knowledge sharing.
Required Experience
- At least three (3) years of experience (with a high school diploma) in telecommunications and security is required.
- Three (03) years of work experience in telecommunications (use of telecom equipment) is desirable.
- Three (03) years of knowledge of standard telecommunication equipment (HF, VHF, Smartphone) is desirable.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma is required, OR
- A university degree (Bachelor's) in telecommunications, communication, security, or a related field will be considered but is not a requirement.
- Knowledge of standard telecommunication equipment (HF, VHF, Smartphone) is required.
