Overview
To support Pacific Island Countries in strengthening national and regional disease surveillance capacities, including updating guidelines, building healthcare worker capacity, and advancing Early Warning and Response System (EWARS) implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the updating and alignment of national communicable disease guidelines with revised notifiable disease lists.
- Strengthen implementation and monitoring of the Early Warning and Response System (EWARS) through integrated, multisource surveillance approaches.
- Enhance the capacity of healthcare workers and surveillance focal points in data collection, analysis, interpretation, and use.
- Support the development of a joint epidemic intelligence report to consolidate surveillance data and inform coordinated action.
Required Experience
- At least five years of practical experience in disease surveillance and outbreak response.
- At least one year in an international setting, preferably in Pacific or with small island developing states (SIDS).
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office applications (MS-Office Word, Excel, and Power Point) and data collection, data management, surveillance system software, data visualization tools.
- Experience in outbreak response, including development of periodic epidemiological updates.
- Relevant work experience within the WHO, UN agencies or international NGOs is desirable.
- Experience in gathering, recording, analysing, and reporting of communicable diseases and/or surveillance related data is desirable.
Qualifications
- University degree in public health, epidemiology or related field.
- Training in field-epidemiology or previous experience in infectious disease outbreaks.
- An advanced university degree (master’s level or above) in public health, epidemiology or related field is desirable.
- Experience in training/instructional design is desirable.
