Overview

Formulates political affairs strategies, develops vision and direction for work, and proposes policy directives for solutions to political problems in assigned countries and the wider region. Plans and implements operational activities related to conflict prevention and resolution.


Key Responsibilities
  • Formulates political affairs strategies and proposes policy directives.
  • Plans and implements operational activities for conflict prevention and resolution.
  • Plans, coordinates, and manages programmes, projects, and activities.
  • Prepares briefing notes, analyses, and reports.
  • Leads team members in data collection and analysis.
  • Monitors and assesses political developments and analyzes policies of other organizations.
  • Manages, coordinates, organizes, and supervises research.
  • Leads and directs a work team, plans and allocates assignments, coaches, mentors, and evaluates staff.
  • Represents division at round tables, seminars, and conferences.
  • Responds to comments, statements, and queries.
  • Formulates the programme of work, budget, and medium-term plan of the team.
  • Develops and maintains relations with senior government officials and advises them.
Required Experience

A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution or related area is required. Extensive experience in political outreach, facilitation, analysis, advice and reporting is required. Field experience working in Latin America and the Caribbean is required. Experience working with legislative bodies, Member States, and delegations in the context of an international organisation is required. Experience in data analytics or related areas is desirable.

Qualifications

An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in political science, international relations or related field or related fields is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
