Overview
The Legal Officer handles matters related to staff requirements, providing legal advice to members, preparing appeals, and reviewing draft policies to improve staff conditions of service.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake legal research and analysis on complex legal matters.
- Review legal documents and present findings.
- Prepare legal opinions, background papers, and reports.
- Prepare or review agreements and participate in negotiations.
- Identify potential liabilities and assist in risk management.
- Prepare and assess briefs of evidence.
- Provide legal advice and interpretations on administrative decisions.
- Assist in or represent GSU members in tribunals or internal appeals.
- Service committees and task forces with legal advice.
- Provide legal advice on HR rules, regulations, and manuals.
- Support staff appeals for all GSU members.
- Review decisions from UN entities and prepare bulletins.
- Liaise with the Staff Federation on common system issues.
- Prepare information bulletins on GSU positions.
- Provide information and guidance to members.
