Overview
The Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer will support the development and implementation of special thematic initiatives and activities related to the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and its outcome document.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the formulation, development, implementation, coordination, backstopping and monitoring of assigned substantive initiatives and technical cooperation activities.
- Provide backstopping and guidance on technical, substantive and administrative issues.
- Review, monitor and analyze social, economic and political developments and trends.
- Draft parts of or contribute to the preparation of necessary documents and reports.
- Provide guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties.
- Contribute to fund-raising.
- Explain and clarify UNODC’s mandates and programme of work, policies and strategies.
- Attend policy-making and technical meetings.
- Liaise on substantive issues with counterparts.
- Participate in workshops, seminars and training courses and conduct presentations.
- Monitor and review best practices, methodologies and programmes.
- Prepare/draft a variety of written outputs.
- Collect and analyze data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights.
- Perform other work-related duties as required.
Required Experience
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience in drug control, crime, corruption and/or criminal justice as relevant to UNODC’s mandate is required.
- Work experience in technical cooperation delivery, project or programme development, implementation and monitoring related to crime prevention and criminal justice is required.
- Work experience within the United Nations system or a similar international organization is desirable.
- Two (2) years or more of work experience in relation to data analytics and research or related area is desirable.
Qualifications
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in international relations, social sciences, law, criminal justice, political science, or related fields is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
