Overview

Provide support in backstopping, coordinating and monitoring the development and implementation of special thematic initiatives and activities in relation to the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.


Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute substantive, technical and administrative support to the formulation, development, implementation, coordination, backstopping and monitoring of assigned substantive initiatives and technical cooperation activities.
  • Carry out basic research and studies on selected aspects of programmes, projects, developments, trends, operations and other activities.
  • Liaise and coordinate with counterparts within UNODC, both in Headquarters and in the field.
  • Contribute to the preparation and review of a variety of written outputs.
  • Provide administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences.
  • Undertake advocacy and outreach activities.
  • Assist in the review of relevant legal documents, instruments, or other material.
  • Contribute to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns.
  • Perform other work-related duties as required.
Required Experience

A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience related to drug control, crime prevention and criminal justice as relevant to UNODC’s mandate OR the successful completion of the Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P) is required. Work experience in technical cooperation delivery, project or programme development, implementation and monitoring is desirable. Work experience within the United Nations system or a similar international organization is desirable. Work experience in collecting and analyzing information on social, economic, or criminal justice-related issues, and contributing to written outputs such as reports, briefing notes, or background papers is desirable. Work experience in liaising with stakeholders (e.g., government counterparts, international organizations), supporting meetings, workshops or training activities, and contributing to the preparation of presentation and training materials is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Qualifications

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in international relations, social sciences, law, criminal justice, political science, or related fields, is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A first-level university degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have passed the Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).
